The Sun Shall Not Smite You - Psalms 121:6

In Psalms one hundred twenty-one the Psalmist said, “The LORD is your keeper: the LORD is your shade upon your right hand”, and in chapter one hundred twenty-one and verse six the Psalmist said, “the sun shall not smite you” where we read,

The sun shall not smite you by day, nor the moon by night.

The verse begins, The sun shall not smite you by day, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “the sun” or “the sun in the sky” “shall not smite you” which means “will not in any way or manner hit, beat, slay, strike, scourge or beat you, the readers and listeners to the Psalmist's words” “by day” or “within the daytime or daily”. The Psalmist shared how the sun in the sky would not scourge or beat the readers and listeners of his words within the daytime.

The verse goes on to say, “... nor the moon by night. The Psalmist continued with the words, “nor the moon” or “no and not in any way the moon in the sky” “by night” which means “within the nighttime”. The Psalmist said the moon in the sky would not strike or beat his readers and listeners as well.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how the Psalmist knew the “sun and moon” would in no way harm the people who listened to his words and followed Jehovah God. God created the sun, moon, stars, planets and galaxies, and He made them for the benefit of mankind. God loves people, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins so we can be forgiven of our sins and enjoy His creation. When we surrender to Him, He will grant us eternal life, and we shall enjoy His presence and creation for all eternity.

Next time the Psalmist says, “the LORD shall preserve you from all evil”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
