Our Mouth Filled with Laughter - Psalms 126:2

In Psalms one hundred twenty-six the Psalmist said “When the LORD turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream”, and in chapter one hundred twenty-six and verse two of Psalms the Psalmist said, “then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing” where we read,

Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing:

then said they among the heathen, The LORD has done great things for them.

The verse begins, Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: The Psalmist began with the words, “then was our mouth” or “at that time was our, the Psalmist and his country-men's, orifice in the face used for eating, drinking and speaking” “filled with laughter” which means “accomplished, complete and consecrated by the use of mocking, derision, sport and defiance”, “and our tongue” or “and our, the Psalmist and his country-men's, wedge in the mouth used from speaking” “with singing” which means “by the use of ringing cry, entreaty, supplication, proclamation, joy, praise and gladness”. The Psalmist said his and his country-men's mouths were rejoicing and “tongues” making a ringing cry of proclamation and praise.

The verse continues, “then said they among the heathen, The LORD has done great things for them. The Psalmist added the words, “then said they” or “at that time uttered, declared and proclaimed they, the people both male and female who were as follows” “among the heathen” which means “in the midst and middle of the non-Hebrew, Gentile, foreign and pagan people”, “The LORD” or “Jehovah who is the exiting One and the proper name for the One True God” “has done great things” which means “has performed, produced, accomplished and made important, powerful, magnificent and exceedingly large acts and deeds” “for them” or “on behalf of them, the countrymen of the Psalmist”. The Psalmist shared how pagan people declared that Jehovah God preformed exceedingly magnificent acts and deeds for him and his people.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist said the reaction and response of him and his fellow countrymen was to “laugh and rejoice” over Jehovah God's restoration of them from “captivity”. They were so filled with joy that the pagan people around them knew God performed these magnificent works on their behalf. God loves the people of Israel, and He loves us. He restored Israel, and He will do the same for anyone who humbles themselves before Him in His Son Jesus' name. “God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believes in him, should not perish, but have everlasting life” (See John 3:16). When we believe and trust in Jesus as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and fill us with such joy that others will observe the wonderful work that God has done within us.

Next time the Psalmist says, “the LORD has done great things for us”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
