Swallowed Up Quick - Psalms 124:3

In Psalms one hundred twenty-four David said, “If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, now may Israel say, If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, when men rose up against us”, and in chapter one hundred and twenty-four and verse three of Psalms David said, “Then they had swallowed us up quick” where we read,

Then they had swallowed us up quick, when their wrath was kindled against us:

The verse begins, “Then they had swallowed us up quick, ... David began with the words, “then they had swallowed us up” or “at that time and moment they, the men who rose up against David and his fellow countrymen, would have engulfed, ate up and squandered David and his fellow countrymen” “quick” which means “in a lively, active and flowing manner”. David said the men who rose against him and his fellow countrymen would have rapidly engulfed them if Jehovah God was not with them.

The verse continues, “... when their wrath was kindled against us: David added the words, “when their wrath” or “at the time and moment their, the men who rose against David and his fellow countrymen, anger which wrinkles the nostril or nose” “was kindled against us” which means “existed as hot, furious, burning and incensed with vexation in opposition to David and his fellow countrymen”. David referred to the time and moment that the burning anger was expressed by the men who arose against him and his fellow countrymen.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how David continued to share about the men who arose against him and his fellow countrymen. These people would have conquered them at the time they became passionately angry if Jehovah God would not have been with David his people. God was their protector, and when they believed and trusted in Him, He would come to their defense. God wants this type of personal intimate relationship with everyone, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and protect us when angry foes arise in opposition to us.

Next time David says, “The waters had overwhelmed us”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
