Crooked Ways - Psalms 125:5

In Psalms one hundred twenty-five the Psalmist said, “Do good, O LORD, unto those that be good, and to them that are upright in their hearts”, and in chapter one hundred twenty-five and verse five of Psalms the Psalmist said, “such as turn aside unto their crooked ways” where we read,

As for such as turn aside unto their crooked ways, the LORD shall lead them forth with the workers of iniquity: but peace shall be upon Israel.

The verse begins, As for such as turn aside unto their crooked ways, the LORD shall lead them forth with the workers of iniquity: The Psalmist began with the words, “as for such as turn aside” or “and toward those who stretch out, extend and incline themselves” “unto their crooked ways” which means “toward their, the evil workers, winding and torturous deeds and acts of living”, “the LORD” or “Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “shall lead them forth” which means “will bring, carry away and cause them, the evil workers, to walk away and live” “with the workers” or “alongside the makers, doers and practicers” “of iniquity” which means “pertaining to trouble, wickedness, sorrow and idolatry”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God would guide people who live in a torturous manner to walk with people who commit trouble and wickedness.

The verse continues, but peace shall be upon Israel. The Psalmist added the words, “but peace” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover completeness, soundness, welfare, calm, tranquility and prosperity” “shall be upon Israel” which means “will exist on Israel whose name means teaching of peace and is the name of the descendants and the nation of the descendants of Jacob”. The Psalmist referred to the calm and tranquility that would be put upon the people of “Israel” in contrast to the people who walk in wickedness.

When we consider the Psalmist's words in this verse, we learn how Jehovah God shall attend to the lives of people who live in a wicked manner and with the people who dwell in “Israel”. God loves “Israel”, and He loves all people. His desire is to have a personal righteous relationship with everyone through His Son Jesus who was crucified on the cross for our sins. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He gives us His forgiveness, grants us everlasting life and allows His “peace” to dwell within us in the same manner as He does His beloved “Israel”.

Next time we begin a new chapter where the Psalmist says, “we were like them that dream”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
