Health to Your Navel and Marrow to Your Bones - Proverbs 3:8

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said to his son, “Be not wise in your own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil”, and in chapter three and verse eight of Proverbs Solomon shared about, “health to your navel, and marrow to your bones” where we read,

It shall be health to your navel, and marrow to your bones.

The verse begins, “It shall be health to your navel, ...”. Solomon began with the words, “it shall be health” or “it, revering Jehovah God and separating from evil, will exist as a cure and healing” “to your navel” which means “toward your, Solomon's son's, center of strength”. Solomon shared how revering Jehovah God and separating from wickedness would cause the center of his strength to be healed and cured.

The verse continues, “... and marrow to your bones.” Solomon added the words, “and marrow” or “and drink, beverage, moisture and refreshment”, “to your bones” which means “toward your, the son of Solomon's, essence, substance, limbs and members”. Solomon said his son's essence and substance would be refreshed by “fearing the LORD, and departing from evil”.

When we think through Solomon's words in this verse, we learn how desired that the center of strength of his son would come from his awe of Jehovah God and separating from wrong and wickedness. His life would be refreshed as he continued in his relationship with God, and this is God's desire for our lives as well. When we put God first, yield to His Son Jesus who came into the world to die on the cross for our sins and keep Him in awe while separating from sin, He will bless us with forgiveness of sins, eternal life and a life that is both healthy in our souls and refreshed in our bodies as we live before His eyes.
