In the book of Proverbs Solomon said to his son, “My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction”, and in chapter three and verse twelve of Proverbs Solomon said, “whom the LORD loves he corrects” where we read,
For whom the LORD loves he corrects; even as a father the son in whom he delights.
The verse begins, “For whom the LORD loves he corrects;”. Solomon began with the words, “for whom the LORD loves” or “because, since and on account that the person whether male or female that Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God has beloved affection for” “he corrects” which means “he, Jehovah God, proves, rebukes, reproves and judges”. Solomon shared how Jehovah God reproves, rebukes and judges the people for whom he has beloved affection.
The verse continues, “even as a father the son in whom he delights.” Solomon added the words, “even as a father” or “similar and in likeness to manner a male progenitor or ancestor” “the son” which means “ the male offspring and prodigy” “in whom he delights” or “that he, Jehovah God, favors, is pleased with and accepts”. Solomon said Jehovah God “corrects” people that He “loves” in the same manner that a father does for his favored “son”.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how Jehovah God reproves and rebukes people that He “loves” in a similar manner to a “father” who “corrects” and reproves his offspring. God loves us and has a plan and purpose for our lives, and when we stray from His best, He “corrects” us. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, so when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and keep us on His straight and narrow path because He favors and accepts us for who we are and who He wants us to be.
Next time Solomon says, “happy is the man that finds wisdom”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
