Trouble and Anguish - Psalms 119:143

In Psalms one hundred nineteen the Psalmist said to Jehovah God, “Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and your law is the truth”, and in chapter one hundred nineteen and verse one hundred and forty-three of Psalms the Psalmist said, “trouble and anguish have taken hold on me” where we read,

Trouble and anguish have taken hold on me: yet your commandments are my delights.

The verse begins, “Trouble and anguish have taken hold on me: The Psalmist began with the words, “trouble and anguish” or “adversity, distress and affliction and well as straits and stress” “have taken hold on me” which means “have found, secured, acquired, encountered and detected me, the Psalmist”. The Psalmist referred to the way distress and stress encountered and found him.

The verse goes on to say,yet your commandments are my delights. The Psalmist continues with the words, “yet your commandments” or “still and even so your, Jehovah God's, laws, ordinances and precepts” “are my delights” which means “exist as my, the Psalmist's, enjoyment and pleasure”. The Psalmist shared how Jehovah God's laws and ordinances were a pleasure to him.

When we think through the Psalmist's words in this verse, we learn how adversity, affliction and stress found him, and when this happened, he relied upon the pleasure he found in the “law” of God. God gave us His instruction manual for life, the Bible, and regardless of our troubled conditions, He will guide us according to His perfect will and plan. God loves us, and He proved His love toward us when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us pleasure in His “commandments” whenever “trouble and anguish” comes our way.

Next time the Psalmist says to Jehovah God, “the righteousness of your testimonies is everlasting”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
