In the book of Proverbs Solomon shared how wisdom would, “deliver you from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flatters with her words. Which forsakes the guide of her youth, and forgets the covenant of her God”, and in chapter two and verse eighteen of Proverbs Solomon shared how the strange woman's, “house inclines unto death” where we read,
For her house inclines unto death, and her paths unto the dead.
The verse begins, “For her house inclines unto death, ...”. Solomon began with the words, “for her house” or “because, since and on account that her, the strange woman's, shelter, abode or dwelling place” “inclines unto death” which means “sinks, bows down and depresses toward violence, pestilence and ruin”. Solomon shared how the dwelling place of the “strange woman” leads a person to violence and ruin.
The verse continues, “... and her paths unto the dead.” Solomon added the words, “and her paths” or “and her, the strange woman's, entrenchments, goings and tracks” “unto the dead” which means “toward the shades, spirits or deceased”. Solomon said the goings of the “strange woman” lead a person to be deceased.
When we think through Solomon's words in this verse, we learn just how dangerous following the lead of the “strange woman” could be for his son. These types of attractions and enticements can ruin a person's life, and whenever we subject ourselves to ungodly and dangerous affiliations, we may not only be affected physically, but also may suffer “deaths” in relationships with others. God knows there are “temptations” in the world, and they are meant to draw us away from a personal relationship with Him and others. (See 1 Corinthians 10:13) This is why He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins. When we surrender ourselves to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and guide us into the truth by His Holy Spirit so the “strange” person and their invitations never cause us ruin, destruction and death.
Next time Solomon says, “none that go unto her return again”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
