Forsaking the Guide of Her Youth - Proverbs 2:17

In the book of Proverbs Solomon shared how wisdom would, “deliver you from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaks froward things. Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness. Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked. Whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths. To deliver you from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flatters with her words”, and in chapter two and verse seventeen of Proverbs Solomon shared how the strange woman, “forsakes the guide of her youth” where we read,

Which forsakes the guide of her youth, and forgets the covenant of her God.

The verse begins, “Which forsakes the guide of her youth, .... Solomon began with the words, “which forsakes” or “who, the woman, leaves, looses, abandons, neglects and apostatizes” “the guide” which means “the companion or husband” “of her youth” or “pertaining to her, the strange woman's, youthfulness, childhood and early life”. Solomon shared how the “strange woman” abandons her companion or husband of her early life.

The verse goes on to say, “... and forgets the covenant of her God.” Solomon continued with the words, “and forgets the covenant” or “and ignores, withers, ceases to care for and mislays the alliance, pledge, treaty, league, constitution and ordinance” “of her God” which means “belonging to her, the strange woman's, Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God”. Solomon said the “strange woman” ignores and ceases to care for the pledge and constitution belonging to her Divine judge and Supreme God.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we through Solomon how the “strange woman” abandons the companion or husband of her early years and ignores the Divine judge's constitution and treaty. God's desire is to keep people in a personal relationship with Him for all their lives, and when we yield to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins, He will forgive us, grant us everlasting life and keep us from forsaking people with whom He has blessed us and help us to remember His league and ordinance with us.

Next time Solomon shares how the strange woman's, “house inclines unto death”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
