In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it. But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it”, and in chapter three and verse one of Proverbs Solomon said, “my son, forget not my law” where we read,
My son, forget not my law; but let your heart keep my commandments:
The verse begins, “My son, forget not my law;”. Solomon began with the words, “my son” or “my, Solomon's, son or male offspring and prodigy”, “forget not” which means “do not ignore, wither from or cease to care for” “my law” or “my, Solomon's, precepts, statutes, direction, instruction, codes, customs and manner of living”. Solomon told his son not to ignore or cease to care for his instructions, directions and precepts.
The verse goes on to say, “but let your heart keep my commandments:” Solomon continued with the words, “but let your heart” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover allow and permit your, Solomon's son's, soul, mind, will, desires, conscience, living being and seat of emotions and affections” “keep my commandments” which means “guard, watch over, preserve, observe and obey my, Solomon's, laws, ordinances, constructs and precepts”. Solomon told his son to guard his soul and mind according to his ordinances and precepts.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon wanted his son never to abandon his instructions, and he desired that he allow his son's soul and mind to watch over and obey what he told him. God wants the same for us. God has given us His Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins, so when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and remind us to never ignore or cease to care for His “law” and to always watch over and be obedient to His words.
Next time Solomon says, “for length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to you”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
