In the book of Proverbs Solomon shared how the strange woman, “forsakes the guide of her youth, and forgets the covenant of her God. For her house inclines unto death, and her paths unto the dead. None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life. That you may walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous”, and in chapter two and verse twenty-one of Proverbs Solomon said, “the upright shall dwell in the land” where we read,
For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it.
The verse begins, “For the upright shall dwell in the land, ...”. Solomon began with the words, “for the upright” or “because, since and on account that people who are straight, right and correct” “shall dwell in the land” which means “will settle down, abide, tabernacle and reside within the country, territory, region, earth and world”. Solomon shared how people who are straight, right and correct will abide in the earth.
The verse goes on to say, “... and the perfect shall remain in it.” Solomon continued with the words, “and the perfect” or “and people who are complete, whole, entire, healthful and sound” “shall remain in it” which means “will excel and show preeminence and excess within the earth”. Solomon said people who are complete, whole and sound will excel and show preeminence within the earth.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon knew people who kept themselves from the temptation of the “strange woman” and lived in a “righteous” manner would not only settle down and abide within the earth, but they would also excel within it. God wants us to prosper according to His purposes and plans, and because He desires that we be a part of His Kingdom, the Kingdom of God, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind. (See Matthew 6:33) When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us to be among the “upright” who abide in the world and show preeminence within it.
Next time Solomon says, “the wicked shall be cut off from the earth”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
