Walking the Way of Good Men - Proverbs 2:20

In the book of Proverbs Solomon shared how the strange woman, “forsakes the guide of her youth, and forgets the covenant of her God. For her house inclines unto death, and her paths unto the dead. None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life.”, and in chapter two and verse twenty of Proverbs Solomon said these things so his son would, “walk in the way of good menwhere we read,

That you may walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous.

The verse begins, “That you may walk in the way of good men, .... Solomon began with the words, “that you may walk” or “so you, Solomon's son, can depart, proceed, move, go away and make a manner of living” “in the way” which means “within the path, road, journey and manner” “of good men” or “belonging to pleasant, agreeable, excellent, rich and valuable male human beings”. Solomon told his son that he would gain a journey and manner of living that is pleasant, agreeable and excellent when he kept himself from the “strange woman” and her enticements.

The verse continues, “... and keep the paths of the righteous.” Solomon added the words, “and keep the paths” or “and guard, watch over, observe, have charge of and protect the travels, pace, rank, manner and way of living” “of the righteous” which means “belonging to the just, right, lawful and correct”. Solomon said his son would watch over and protect the travels and way of living of people who are just, right, lawful and correct if he kept himself from the “strange woman”.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon knew it was important for his son to resist the temptation of the “strange woman”, and his son's life would be benefited by doing so. God wants us to make our way of living according to pleasant and agreeable people, and He wants us to watch over and observe the manner of living of people who are just and correct. God desires to bless us because He loves us, and He proved His love when He sent His Only Begotten Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us to “walk in the way of good men” and “keep the paths of the righteous” all the days of our lives.

Next time Solomon says, the upright shall dwell in the land, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
