In Psalms one hundred nineteen the Psalmist said, “I am small and despised: yet do not I forget your precepts”, and in chapter one hundred nineteen and verse one hundred and forty-two of Psalms the Psalmist said, “your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness” where we read,
Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and your law is the truth.
The verse begins, “Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, ...” The Psalmist began with the words, “your righteousness” or “your, Jehovah God's, justice, rightness, vindication and prosperity” “is an everlasting righteousness” which means “exists as a long enduring, to futurity, forever, everlasting and perpetual rightness, vindication and prosperity”. The Psalmist referred to the everlasting rightness and justice of Jehovah God.
The verse continues, “... and your law is the truth.” The Psalmist added the words, “and your law” or “and your, Jehovah God's, direction, instruction, custom, manner and codes of laws” “is the truth” which means “exists as right, faithful, assured, established, sure, reliable and stable”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God's “direction and instruction” exists as faithful, right and sure.
When we consider the Psalmist's words in this verse, we learn how we can rely upon the “word” of God. God is our Creator, and He gives us life, breath and sustenance for living. His “word” gives direction, instruction and guidance through our lives, and because He desires a personal intimate relationship with us, He provided His “word”, the Bible”, for our instruction manual for living. He gave His “only begotten Son” Jesus to die on the cross for our sins, and when we submit our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us about the “righteousness” and “truthfulness” of what He has to say.
Next time the Psalmist says, “trouble and anguish have taken hold on me”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
