Deal According to Mercy - Psalms 119:124

In Psalms one hundred nineteen the Psalmist said to Jehovah God, “My eyes fail for your salvation, and for the word of your righteousness”, and in chapter one hundred nineteen and verse one hundred and twenty-four of Psalms the Psalmist said to Jehovah God, “deal with your servant according unto your mercy” where we read,

Deal with your servant according unto your mercy, and teach me your statutes.

The verse begins, “Deal with your servant according unto your mercy, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “deal with your servant” or “fashion, make, produce and accomplish your, Jehovah God's, bondman, man of servile condition and worshiper” “according unto your mercy” which means “in keeping with your, Jehovah God's, goodness, kindness and faithfulness”. The Psalmist appealed to Jehovah God to fashion him as his bondman and worshiper in keeping with His goodness, kindness and faithfulness.

The verse continues, “... and teach me your statutes. The Psalmist added the words, “and teach me” or “and instruct, exercise and train me, the Psalmist” “your statutes” which means “your, Jehovah God's, ordinances, limits and a task or portion that is resolved or due”. The Psalmist wanted Jehovah God to instruct Him in keeping with His ordinances and prescribed boundaries and decrees.

When we consider the words in this verse, we discover how the Psalmist wanted God to fashion him with goodness, kindness and faithfulness, and He knew he needed to be instructed in keeping with God's ordinances. God's way is best for us, and when we have a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and guide us into all truth by His Holy Spirit. (See John 16:13) Let all who read these words take heed to the Psalmist's words and follow his example in being fashioned and taught by Jehovah God.

Next time the Psalmist says to Jehovah God, “I am your servant; give me understanding”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
