Give Your Servant Understanding - Psalms 119:125

In Psalms one hundred nineteen the Psalmist said to Jehovah God, “deal with your servant according unto your mercy, and teach me your statutes”, and in chapter one hundred nineteen and verse one hundred and twenty-five of Psalms the Psalmist said to Jehovah God, “I am your servant; give me understanding” where we read,

I am your servant; give me understanding, that I may know your testimonies.

The verse begins, “I am your servant; give me understanding, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “I am your servant” or “I, the Psalmist, exist as your, Jehovah God's, bondman, man of servile condition and worshiper”; “give me understanding” which means “grant, bestow and impart to me, the Psalmist, discernment, perception, consideration, insight and intelligence”. The Psalmist declared himself to be Jehovah God's bondman and worshiper, so he desired to have the discernment and insight of God.

The verse goes on to say, “... that I may know your testimonies. The Psalmist continued with the words, “that I may know” or “so I, the Psalmist, might perceive, find out, discern, discriminate and distinguish” “your testimonies” which means “your, Jehovah God's, Divine witnesses”. The Psalmist said when he received the “understanding” of Jehovah God, he would perceive and discern the Divine witnesses Him.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how the Psalmist proclaimed himself to be the bondman of Jehovah God, and he was in need of Jehovah God's insight to be able to perceive His Divine witnesses. God wants us to know Him, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth and empower us to live according to the same. (See John 16:13 and Acts 1:8)

Next time the Psalmist says to Jehovah God, “it is time for you, LORD, to work”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
