Depart from Me Evildoers - Psalms 119:115

In Psalms one hundred nineteen the Psalmist said to Jehovah God, “You are my hiding place and my shield: I hope in your word”, and in chapter one hundred nineteen and verse one hundred and fifteen of Psalms the Psalmist said, “depart from me, you evildoers” where we read,

Depart from me, you evildoers: for I will keep the commandments of my God.

The verse begins, “Depart from me, you evildoers: The Psalmist began with the words, “depart from me” or “turn aside, be removed and retract from me, the Psalmist”, “you evildoers” which means “you, people whether male or female, who perform, bad, displeasing, injurious and wicked acts and deeds”. The Psalmist told the people who perform wicked and injurious acts to separate from him.

The verse goes on to say, “for I will keep the commandments of my God. The Psalmist continued with the words, “for I will keep” or “because, since and on account that I, the Psalmist, shall guard, watch over, observe and take heed to” “the commandments” which means “the precepts, ordinance and laws” “of my God” or “belonging to my, the Psalmist's, Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God”. The Psalmist declared that He would observe the ordinances and laws belonging to his Divine judge and Supreme God.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how the Psalmist determined to have wicked people separate from him, and he gave the reason as observing the precepts and laws of his Divine judge Jehovah God. God loves us, and His desire is to have a personal relationship with us through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins and will forgive us when we believe and trust in Him. God wants to give us eternal life with Him, and as we yield our lives to Him, we will separate from people who are wicked as we take heed to His laws and ordinances.

Next time the Psalmist says, “uphold me according to your word”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
