In Psalms one hundred nineteen the Psalmist said to Jehovah God, “Deliver me from the oppression of man: so will I keep your precepts”, and in chapter one hundred nineteen and verse one hundred and thirty-five of Psalms the Psalmist said to Jehovah God, “make your face to shine upon your servant” where we read,
Make your face to shine upon your servant; and teach me your statutes.
The verse begins, “Make your face to shine upon your servant;” The Psalmist began with the words, “make your face” or “cause your, Jehovah God's, front, countenance and presence” “to shine” which means “to be illuminated, kindled and lightened” “upon your servant” or “on your, Jehovah God's, bondman, man of servile condition and worshiper”. The Psalmist wanted Jehovah God to allow His countenance to illuminate him as His worshiper and bondman.
The verse goes on to say, “and teach me your statutes.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “and teach me” or “and instruct, train and exercise me, the Psalmist” “your statutes” which means “your, Jehovah God's, ordinances, boundaries and prescribed tasks and portions”. The Psalmist appealed to Jehovah God to instruct him in His ordinances and prescribed tasks.
When we consider the Psalmist's words in this verse, we discover his desire to have God's favor and kindness to illuminate his life, and he wanted God to instruct him in His boundaries for life. God wants to bless us because He loves us, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind to prove it. When we surrender our lives to Jesus as our personal “Lord and Savior”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us the favor of His “countenance” and instruct us in His precepts.
Next time the Psalmist says, “rivers of waters run down my eyes”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
