Rivers of Waters from My Eyes - Psalms 119:136

In Psalms one hundred nineteen the Psalmist said to Jehovah God, “Make your face to shine upon your servant; and teach me your statutes”, and in chapter one hundred nineteen and verse one hundred and thirty-six of Psalms the Psalmist said, “rivers of waters run down my eyes” where we read,

Rivers of waters run down my eyes, because they keep not your law.

The verse begins, “Rivers of waters run down my eyes, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “rivers of waters” or “channels and streams of watercourses or floods” “run down my eyes” which means “descend from, march and sink down my, the Psalmist's, physical eyes”. The Psalmist referred to the streaming channels of tears that were flowing from his physical eyes.

The verse continues, “... because they keep not your law. The Psalmist added the words, “because they keep not” or “since and on account that they, the Psalmist's physical eyes, do not guard, observe, take heed to or charge of” “your law” which means “your, Jehovah God's, direction, instruction, manner and codes of law”. The Psalmist said the reason tears were flowing from his eyes was because he did not observe the direction and instruction of Jehovah God.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how the Psalmist attempted to relay his complete sorrow over not keeping Jehovah God's commandments. Paul the apostle said, “... the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do” (See Romans 7:19), and he knew there was a sinful nature within him that did not want to keep God's law. Jesus knew this as well, and when He came into the world, He died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His Holy Spirit to guide us into all truth and empower us to live in accordance with His “law” so we will be His witnesses to others. (See John 16:13; Acts 1:8)

Next time we begin the next section of Psalm one hundred and nineteen with the Hebrew letter “TZADDI” where the Psalmist says, “righteous are you, O LORD”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
