In Psalms one hundred nineteen the Psalmist said to Jehovah God, “Order my steps in your word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me”, and in chapter one hundred nineteen and verse one hundred and thirty-four of Psalms the Psalmist said to Jehovah God, “deliver me from the oppression of man” where we read,
Deliver me from the oppression of man: so will I keep your precepts.
The verse begins, “Deliver me from the oppression of man:” The Psalmist began with the words, “deliver me” or “ransom, redeem and rescue me, the Psalmist” “from the oppression” which means “separate and apart from the extortion, injury, fraud, distress, unjust gain and cruelty” “of man” or “belonging to people whether male or female”. The Psalmist appealed to Jehovah God to rescue him from the extortion and distress of people.
The verse continues, “so will I keep your precepts.” The Psalmist added the words, “so will I keep” or “then, therefore, wherefore and on this account shall I, the Psalmist, guard, watch over, take heed to and observe” “your precepts” which means “your, Jehovah God's, statutes, mandates and appointments”. The Psalmist said he would take heed to and observe the mandates and laws of Jehovah God because He rescued him from people who were cruel and distressing.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how the Psalmist depended upon Jehovah God to liberate him from people who were cruel to him, and this caused him to observe God's laws. God wants to be our provision and protection, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins so we could have an intimate relationship with Him. When we surrender to Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life, deliver us from the “oppressors” and give us a desire to “keep” His commandments all the days of our lives.
Next time the Psalmist says to Jehovah God, “make your face to shine upon your servant”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
