I am Small and Despised - Psalms 119:141

In Psalms one hundred nineteen the Psalmist said to Jehovah God, “Your word is very pure: therefore your servant loves it”, and in chapter one hundred nineteen and verse one hundred and forty-one of Psalms the Psalmist said, “I am small and despised” where we read,

I am small and despised: yet do not I forget your precepts.

The verse begins, “I am small and despised: The Psalmist began with the words, “I am small” or “I, the Psalmist, exist as little, insignificant, young and ignoble” “and despised” which means “and disdained, considered vile, worthless and regarded with contempt”. The Psalmist shared how considered himself young, insignificant and regarded with contempt and disdain.

The verse goes on to say,yet do not I forget your precepts. The Psalmist continued with the words, “yet do not I forget” or “still and even so I, the Psalmist, in no way or manner ignore, cease to care for and mislay from want of memory or attention” “your precepts” which means “your, Jehovah God's, statutes, appointments, mandates and law”. Even though the Psalmist considered himself insignificant and despised, he in no way or manner ignored or ceased to care for Jehovah God's statutes and mandates.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how the Psalmist believed himself to be of little importance and disdained, and still he in no way ceased to care for the mandates of Jehovah God. God knows our station in life, and although we may have a poor assessment of ourselves, God loves us and cares for us. Paul the apostle said, “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God” (See Romans 3:23), and “the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord”. (See Romans 6:23) Everyone, regardless of their own view of themselves, is invited to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield to Him as our personal “Lord and Savior”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us to remember His “speeches and mandates” every day of our lives.

Next time the Psalmist says, “your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
