God's Word is Pure - Psalms 119:140

In Psalms one hundred nineteen the Psalmist said, “My zeal has consumed me, because my enemies have forgotten your words”, and in chapter one hundred nineteen and verse one hundred and forty of Psalms the Psalmist said to Jehovah God, “your word is very pure” where we read,

Your word is very pure: therefore your servant loves it.

The verse begins, “Your word is very pure: The Psalmist began with the words, “your word” or “your, Jehovah God's, utterance, speech, business, occupation, act, matter and manner” “is very pure” which means “exists as exceedingly and abundantly smelted, refined and tested to be true”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God's utterance and manner exists as refined and tested as true.

The verse continues, “therefore your servant loves it. The Psalmist added the words, “therefore your servant” or “then, wherefore and on this account your, Jehovah God's, slave, bondman, man of servile condition and worshiper” “loves it” which means “has an appetite and is affectionate for it, Jehovah God's word”. Because Jehovah God's speech and manner exists as abundantly refined and tested, the Psalmist was extremely fond of and affectionate for it.

When we meditate upon the Psalmist's words in this verse, we learn how he knew the truthfulness of what Jehovah God has to say, and he was deeply affectionate for God's “word”. God knows us, and He loves us. He gave His “word” to us to provide direction and protection for our lives, and when we violated His law and sinned against Him, He sent His Son Jesus to pay the price of death on the cross for the sins of all of us. When we surrender our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us a “love” for His “word” through His Holy Spirit as He guides us into all truth. (See John 16:13)

Next time the Psalmist says, “I am small and despised”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
