I Love God's Commandments - Psalms 119:127

In Psalms one hundred nineteen the Psalmist said to Jehovah God, It is time for you, LORD, to work: for they have made void your law”, and in chapter one hundred nineteen and verse one hundred and twenty-seven of Psalms the Psalmist said to Jehovah God, “I love your commandments above gold” where we read,

Therefore I love your commandments above gold; yes, above fine gold.

The verse begins, “Therefore I love your commandments above gold; The Psalmist began with the words, “therefore I love” or “then, wherefore and on this account I, the Psalmist, have great affection for” “your commandments” which means “your, Jehovah God's, ordinances, precepts and laws” “above gold” or “over the fine and pure metal gold”. The Psalmist declared that he had a deep affection for Jehovah God's precepts and laws beyond the value of pure gold.

The verse goes on to say, “yes, above fine gold. The Psalmist continued with the words, “yes, above” or “even so and indeed over and beyond the value of” “fine gold” which means “refined gold metal”. The Psalmist repeated the idea of loving Jehovah God's precepts beyond the value of refined gold.

When we meditate upon the Psalmist's words in this verse, we discover just how valuable he considered the word of God in his life. God precepts exceeded the value of pure, refined gold, and the idea is that he desired to have God's word more than precious gold metal. God wants us to value His word, and when we study it carefully, we will find that He is a loving God who sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins because He wants us to live with Him eternally. When we surrender to Jesus, He will forgive our sins, of which we all are guilty (See Romans 3:10,23), and grant us everlasting life. Then He will give us His Holy Spirit to guide us into all truth and to have a love and appreciation for God's word more than the valuable metals such as gold in the world. (See John 16:13)

Next time the Psalmist says to Jehovah God, “I esteem all your precepts … to be right”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
