My Flesh Trembles - Psalms 119:120

In Psalms one hundred nineteen the Psalmist said, “You have trodden down all them that err from your statutes: for their deceit is falsehood. You put away all the wicked of the earth like dross: therefore I love your testimonies”, and in chapter one hundred nineteen and verse one hundred and twenty of Psalms the Psalmist said to Jehovah God, “my flesh trembles for fear of you” where we read,

My flesh trembles for fear of you; and I am afraid of your judgments.

The verse begins, “My flesh trembles for fear of you; The Psalmist began with the words, “my flesh trembles” or “my, the Psalmist, frail and erring body stands, shivers and bristles up” “for fear of you” which means “because and on account of the terror, dread and alarm pertaining to you, Jehovah God”. The Psalmist said his frail body shivered and bristled up because of the dread and terror associated with Jehovah God.

The verse continues, “and I am afraid of your judgments. The Psalmist added the words, “and I am afraid” or “and I, the Psalmist, exist as revered, in awe and in dread” “of your judgments” which means “pertaining to your, Jehovah God's, justice, ordinance, seat of judgment and act of deciding a case”. The Psalmist shared how he revered and was in awe of Jehovah God's ordinance and act of deciding a case.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how the Psalmist was in awe of Jehovah God, and when he considered the implications of being before Him in judgment, he was in terror. God is an ominous and awesome God, and although He is loving, kind and gracious beyond our knowledge, He is also a God of justice, righteousness and holiness. God sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross to pay the price of death for our sins, (See 2 Corinthians 5:21) and when we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Lord and Savior”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and stand with us in our judgment to help us to be in awe of Him as He receives us into His Kingdom. (See 1 John 2:1)

Next time we begin the next section of the one hundred and nineteenth chapter with the Hebrew letter “AIN” where the Psalmist says, “I have done judgment and justice”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
