In Psalms one hundred nineteen the Psalmist said to Jehovah God, “Your testimonies that you have commanded are righteous and very faithful”, and in chapter one hundred nineteen and verse one hundred and thirty-nine of Psalms the Psalmist said to Jehovah God, “my zeal has consumed me” where we read,
My zeal has consumed me, because my enemies have forgotten your words.
The verse begins, “My zeal has consumed me, ...” The Psalmist began with the words, “my zeal” or “my, the Psalmist's, ardor, jealousy and passionate anger” “has consumed me” which means “has put an end to, cut off, destroyed, extirpated, exterminated and terminated me, the Psalmist”. The Psalmist shared how his passionate anger and jealousy destroyed him.
The verse goes on to say, “... because my enemies have forgotten your words.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “because my enemies” or “since and on account that my, the Psalmist's, hating foes and adversaries” “have forgotten your words” which means “have ignored, ceased to care for and mislaid from memory your, Jehovah God's, speeches, utterances, business, occupation, acts, matter and manner”. The Psalmist said the reason his jealousy destroyed him was on account that his hating foes ignored the speeches and matters of Jehovah God.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how the Psalmist became overwhelmed by the burning passion within him, and this was caused by people who hated him ignored the “words” of Jehovah God. God wants us to know His “words” because they lead us to the best life we can live. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins, and when we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Lord and Savior”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and contend with those who hate us and have no regard to what God has to say.
Next time the Psalmist says, “your word is very pure”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
