Surety for God's Servant - Psalms 119:122

In Psalms one hundred nineteen the Psalmist said, “I have done judgment and justice: leave me not to my oppressors”, and in chapter one hundred nineteen and verse one hundred and twenty-two of Psalms the Psalmist said, be surety for your servant for good” where we read,

Be surety for your servant for good: let not the proud oppress me.

The verse begins, “Be surety for your servant for good: The Psalmist began with the words, “be surety” or “exist as a pledge, exchange, occupation and undertaking” “for your servant” which means “on behalf of your, Jehovah God's, bondman, man of servile condition and worshiper” “for good” or “on behalf of what is pleasant, agreeable, excellent, rich and valuable in estimation”. The Psalmist called upon Jehovah God to exist as a pledge for him because he was his bondman and worshiper for what is pleasant.

The verse continues, “let not the proud oppress me. The Psalmist added the words, “let not the proud” or “do not allow or permit people whether male or female who are arrogant, insolent and presumptuous” “oppress me” which means “violate, defraud, be deceitful and wrong toward me, the Psalmist”. The Psalmist appealed to Jehovah God not to allow people who are arrogant and presumptuous to defraud him and treat him wrongly.

When we meditate upon the Psalmist's words in this verse, we see how he desired to have Jehovah God to be his pledge and occupation, and he did not want arrogant people to violate and defraud him. We can understand his desire, and so could God. God loved the Psalmist, and He loves us. He want to be our provision as protector as we yield our lives to His Son Jesus who came into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and be our pledge and protection against the presumptuous people who are deceitful and wrong toward us.

Next time the Psalmist says to Jehovah God, “my eyes fail for your salvation”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
