Executing Judgment Written - Psalms 149:9

In Psalms one hundred and forty nine the Psalmist said, “Let the saints be joyful in glory: let them sing aloud upon their beds. Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand. To execute vengeance upon the heathen, and punishments upon the people. To bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron”, and in chapter one hundred and forty nine and verse nine the Psalmist said, “to execute upon them the judgment written” where we read,

To execute upon them the judgment written: this honor have all his saints. Praise you the LORD.

The verse begins, To execute upon them the judgment written:. The Psalmist began with the words, “to execute upon them” or “to fashion, accomplish, work, make and produce avengement or revenge on them, the heathen” “the judgment written” which means “the justice, ordinance, process, procedure and litigation enrolled, engraved, inscribed and recorded”. The Psalmist said the people who have “the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand” would fashion and produce revenge, justice, litigation and procedure upon the “heathen” in accordance with the inscribed justice of God.

The verse continues, “this honor have all his saints. Praise you the LORD.” The Psalmist added the words, “this honor” or “this ornament, splendor and glory” “have all his saints” which means “possess and own each, every, the whole and everyone of his, Jehovah God's, merciful, godly and pious ones”. “Praise you” or “you, people who are reading and listening to the Psalmist's words, give adoration, thanksgiving and worship to” “the LORD” which refers to “Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. The Psalmist said every person who is pious and godly possesses the splendor and glory associated with the justice of Jehovah God to which the Psalmist repeated the idea of all his readers and listeners giving thanksgiving and adoration to Jehovah God.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist concluded this Psalm by continuing the idea of the people who had “the high praises of God in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand” carrying out justice upon the heathen in accordance with what is inscribed by Jehovah God, and only the people who are godly and pious possess this splendor and glory. God wants to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus who was crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we humble ourselves, repent of our sins and receive Jesus as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us“honor” and ability to carry out justice according to His purposes and plans. This is worthy of our adoration and thanksgiving to Jehovah God forever and ever.

Next time we begin the final chapter in Psalms and see the Psalmist say, “Praise God in his sanctuary”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
