In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “When wisdom enters into your heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto your soul. Discretion shall preserve you, understanding shall keep you”, and in chapter two and verse twelve of Proverbs Solomon said, “to deliver you from the way of the evil man” where we read,
To deliver you from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaks froward things;
The verse begins, “To deliver you from the way of the evil man, ...”. Solomon began with the words, “to deliver you” or “to rescue, save and liberate you, Solomon's son, separate and apart” “from the way” which means “apart from the road, path, distance, journey, manner and direction” “of the evil man” or “belonging to the person whether male or female who is bad, disagreeable, malignant, miserable, unhappy, unkind and wicked”. Solomon shared how “wisdom and discretion” would rescue his son and the godly person from the manner and direction of the ungodly and wicked person.
The verse continues, “... from the man that speaks froward things;” Solomon added the words, “from the man” or “separate and apart from the person whether male or female” “that speaks froward things” which means “who utters, declares and proclaims perverse and fraudulent words”. Solomon said “discretion and wisdom” would rescue his son and the person who is pious and godly from the person who utters perversities and falsehoods.
When we consider Solomon's words in this verse, we learn how important “discretion and wisdom” are for living. God wants people to have and live by His wise ways, and when we abide by His instructions for living, we will be kept safe from people who are wicked and proclaim fraudulent things. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we surrender our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and provide His ways of wisdom to rescue us from the wicked person's manner of living and from the people who make false claims.
Next time Solomon shares about, “the paths of uprightness” and “the ways of darkness”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
