The Proverbs of Solomon - Proverbs 1:1

In the book of Proverbs we learn wisdom for living in the world under the guidance of Jehovah God and through the words of Solomon whose name means “peace” and was the “son of David by Bathsheba and third king of Israel; author of Proverbs, Song of Songs and Ecclesiastes”. In chapter one and verse one Solomon of Proverbs wrote, “the proverbs of Solomon the son of David” where we read,

The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel;

The verse begins, The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, .... Solomon began with the words, “the proverbs” or “the parables, proverbial sayings, aphorisms, poems and sentences of ethical wisdom and maxims” “of Solomon” which means “belonging to Solomon whose name means “peace” and was the “son of David by Bathsheba and third king of Israel; author of Proverbs, Song of Songs and Ecclesiastes“the son of David” or “the male offspring, progeny and child belonging to David whose name means blessed and was the second king of the nation of Israel”. Solomon began this verse by identifying that these were the parables, poems and sentences of ethical wisdom given by him who was King David of Israel's Son.

The verse goes on to say, “... king of Israel;” Solomon continued with the word, “king” or “royal ruler and leader” “of Israel” which means “belonging to Israel whose name means God prevails and is the name of the descendants and the nation of the descendants of Jacob”. Solomon shared how he was the royal ruler over the people and nation of “Israel”.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon introduced his book of parables by identifying himself. These God inspired words of Solomon were for the benefit of everyone reading them, and when we pay attention to and heed them, we will live in the “wise” manner God intended for us. God loves us, and He proved His love for us when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Lord and Savior”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us His ways of “wisdom” for living before Him and others in this world.

Next time Solomon says the Proverbs were given, “to know wisdom and instruction”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
