In Psalms one hundred and forty nine the Psalmist said, “Let Israel rejoice in him that made him: let the children of Zion be joyful in their King”, and in chapter one hundred and forty nine and verse three of Psalms the Psalmist said, “Let them praise his name in the dance” where we read,
Let them praise his name in the dance: let them sing praises unto him with the timbrel and harp.
The verse begins, “Let them praise his name in the dance:”. The Psalmist began with the words, “let them praise his name” or “allow and permit them, the people of Israel and the children of Zion, be boastful, give thanksgiving and adoration to his, Jehovah God's, fame, reputation and glory” “in the dance” which means “with dancing”. The Psalmist wanted the people within the nation of “Israel” and the “children of Zion” to give thanksgiving and adoration to Jehovah God with dancing.
The verse continues, “let them sing praises unto him with the timbrel and harp.” The Psalmist added the words, “let them sing praises unto him” or “allow and permit them, the people of Israel and the children of Zion to use their voices to make musical lyrics and odes of adoration and thanksgiving to him, Jehovah God” “with the timbrel” which means “by the use of the tabret or tambourine” “and harp” or “and lyre or stringed instrument used for popular as well as sacred music”. The Psalmist called upon the people of “Israel” and the “children of Zion” to give thanksgiving and adoration to Jehovah God with music from their voices, the tambourine and the lyre.
When we think through the Psalmist's words in this verse, we see how he called upon the people of “Israel” and the “offspring of Zion” to give honor and thanksgiving to Jehovah God by dancing, singing, playing the tambourine and the stringed instruments. God appreciates and is pleased with worship music when it is offered to Him with thanksgiving. Everyone is invited to believe and trust in Jehovah God when they understand that He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for their sins. As we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and encourage us to join the people of “Israel” and the “children of Zion” in giving Him praise, honor and glory for all eternity.
Next time the Psalmist says, “the LORD takes pleasure in his people”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
