Come With Us - Proverbs 1:11

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “My son, if sinners entice you, consent you not”, and in chapter one and verse eleven of Proverbs Solomon tells his son what to do, “if they say, come with us” where we read,

If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause:

The verse begins, “If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, .... Solomon began with the words, “if they say” or “whether and in case they, the sinners, utter, proclaim and declare”, “come with us” which means “walk, proceed, live and be lead away alongside us, the sinners”, “let us lay wait for blood” or “allow and permit us, the sinner and Solomon's son, to lurk, lie in wait and in ambush to kill, for bloodshed or blood thirsty ways”. Solomon presented the condition to his son that “sinful peers” might invite him to set an ambush to kill or commit bloodshed against someone.

The verse continues, “... let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause:” Solomon added the words, “let us lurk privily” or “allow and permit us, the sinner and Solomon's son, hide from discovery and store and treasure up” “for the innocent” which means “for people who are clean, free from guilt, punishment and obligation” “without cause” or “for nothing, no purpose, in vain, undeservedly and gratuitously”. Solomon presented the idea that the sinners would ask his son to join them in secret to ambush people who are clean and free from guilt without having any reason or purpose for doing so.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we can imagine Solomon giving his son advice concerning peer pressure from sinful people who would attempt to entice him to hide in secret and kill innocent people. There would be no purpose for doing this to the people, but these sinners might want Solomon's son to join them anyway. God knows temptations will come to us, and many times they arrive from people who know us. Satan desires to destroy us, and Jesus came into the world to die on the cross to save us from our sins and from the people who would invite us to sin with them. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us recognize sinful practices when others desires to “entice” us.

Next time Solomon tells his son what to do if they say, “let us swallow them up alive as the grave”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
