Dwelling Safely - Proverbs 1:33

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said “the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them”, and in chapter one and verse thirty-three of Proverbs Solomon shared how wisdom said, “whosoever hearkens to me shall dwell safely” where we read,

But whosoever hearkens unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.

The verse begins, “But whosoever hearkens unto me shall dwell safely, .... Solomon began with the words, “but whosoever” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover whatever person whether male or female” “hearkens unto me” which means “hears, listens, pays attention to and understands me, wisdom” “shall dwell safely” or “will settle down, abide, reside and be established in security, assurance, boldly and with confidence and hope”. Solomon shared how the person who listens to the words of wisdom will abide in confidence, assurance and hope.

The verse continues, “... and shall be quiet from fear of evil.” Solomon added the words, “and shall be quiet from” or “and will exist at ease, in peace and rest securely separate and apart from” “fear of evil” which means “terror, dread and alarm which belongs to bad, disagreeableness, unpleasantness, wickedness, unhappiness and misery”. Solomon said people who listen to the words of wisdom will rest securely apart from the terror that unhappiness and misery cause.

When we consider Solomon's words in this verse, we learn how the person who listens to and obeys the words of wisdom is greatly benefited in their lives. They dwell in assurance and security, and they are at ease and in peace from the terror and dread that wickedness brings. God wants to have a personal intimate relationship with us through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us to “dwell safely” and “be quiet from the fear of evil” by giving us His wisdom.

Next time we begin a new chapter and see Solomon say to his son, “receive my words”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
