Let Israel Rejoice in Their Creator - Psalms 149:2

In Psalms one hundred and forty nine the Psalmist said, “Praise you the LORD. Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise in the congregation of saints”, and in chapter one hundred and forty nine and verse two of Psalms the Psalmist said, “Let Israel rejoice in him that made him” where we read,

Let Israel rejoice in him that made him: let the children of Zion be joyful in their King.

The verse begins, Let Israel rejoice in him that made him:. The Psalmist began with the words, “let Israel rejoice” or “allow and permit Israel whose name means God prevails and is the name of the descendants and the nation of the descendants of Jacob be glad, gleeful, merry and cheerful” “in him that made him” which means “within him, Jehovah God, who formed, fashioned and created him, Israel”. The Psalmist called upon the people in the nation of “Israel” to be glad within Jehovah God who formed and fashioned them.

The verse goes on to say, “let the children of Zion be joyful in their King.” The Psalmist continues with the words, “let the children of Zion” or “allow and permit the offspring and progeny belonging to Zion whose name means parched place and is another name for Jerusalem especially in the prophetic books” “be joyful” which means “exist as exulted, glad and spinning around” “in their King” or “within their, the people of Israel's, royal ruler and leader”. The Psalmist wanted the offspring belonging to the people of Israel of “Zion” to be glad within their royal ruler.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist exhorted both “Israel” and the “offspring of Jerusalem” to be cheerful and glad in their “Creator” and in their “King”. God is worthy of the “praise” of all people, and when we realize He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, we can surrender to Him and have our sins forgiven, be granted everlasting life and join with “Israel” and the “children of Zion” in being cheerful and filled with gladness as we worship Him.

Next time the Psalmist says, “Let them praise his name in the dance”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
