In the book of Proverbs Solomon shared how wisdom said, “I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear comes. When your fear comes as desolation, and your destruction comes as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish comes upon you. Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me. For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD. They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof. Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices”, and in chapter one and verse thirty-two of Proverbs Solomon said, “for the turning away of the simple shall slay them” where we read,
For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.
The verse begins, “For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, ...”. Solomon began with the words, “for the turning away” or “because, since and on account that the apostasy and backsliding” “of the simple” which means “belonging to people who are foolish and naive” “shall slay them” or “will kill, murder, ruin and destroy them, the people who refuse and reject the words of wisdom”. Solomon shared how the backsliding of people who are foolish and naive will kill and destroy the people who refuse the words of wisdom.
The verse goes on to say, “... and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.” Solomon continued with the words, “and the prosperity of fools” or “and the quietness, ease, security and abundance belonging to stupid fellows, dullards, simpletons and arrogant ones” “shall destroy them” which means “will make them, the people who refuse and reject wisdom's words, to perish, go astray and vanish”. Solomon said the quietness and ease of people who are simpletons and dullards would make the ones who reject the words of wisdom to vanish and perish.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon said people who backslide from wisdom and are at ease and secure will be destroyed and vanish. The idea is that these people rely upon their own ways, and because they see no need for God's wisdom, they have abundance and their thinking will fail them. God desires to be our provider and protector, and because our sins have separated us from a personal relationship with Him, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us to rely upon His wisdom rather than our own way and “prosperity”.
Next time Solomon says, “whosoever hearkens to me shall dwell safely”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
