Cast in Your Lot Among Us - Proverbs 1:14

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “My son, if sinners entice you, consent you not. If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause. Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit. We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil”, and in chapter one and verse fourteen of Proverbs Solomon tells his son what to do if they say, “cast in your lot among us” where we read,

Cast in your lot among us; let us all have one purse:

The verse begins, Cast in your lot among us;. Solomon began with the words, “cast in your lot” or “settle, waste away, offer and apportion your, Solomon's son', portion, recompense and retribution” “among us” which means “in the midst, middle and between us, the sinners”. Solomon shared how the sinners might entice his son to settle his portion of the loot along with them.

The verse goes on to say, “let us all have one purse:” Solomon continued with the words, “let us all” or “allow and permit us, the sinners and Solomon's son, each, every, the whole and everyone to” “have one purse” which means “possess, own and hold a single cup, bag or weights of money”. Solomon said the sinners might ask his son to combine “all” their gains into one bag of riches.

When we meditate upon Solomon's words in this verse, we discover how he added that sinners might ask his son to combine his portion of gains with theirs. In other words, all of the booty that was captured would be brought together to have a single bag in which they kept their treasures. They forgot that all treasures gained upon the earth are temporary at best, and even if they combine them, all of them will be left on the earth after they die. God knows this, and His idea is to give people the eternal treasure of a personal relationship with His Son Jesus who died on the cross for their sins. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us a treasure that shall never fade away with Him. (See James 1:11)

Next time Solomon tells what to do if they say, “my son, walk you not in the way with them”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
