In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “My son, if sinners entice you, consent you not. If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause. Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit. We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil. Cast in your lot among us; let us all have one purse”, and in chapter one and verse fifteen of Proverbs Solomon says, “my son, walk you not in the way with them” where we read,
My son, walk not you in the way with them; refrain your foot from their path:
The verse begins, “My son, walk not you in the way with them;”. Solomon began with the words, “my son” or “my, Solomon's male offspring and progeny”, “walk not you” which means “do not you, Solomon's son, amble, make way, depart, proceed or move” “in the way with them” or “alongside and beside the road, path, journey and manner with them, the sinners”. Solomon shared how he told his son not to proceed in the same path as the “sinners” who would entice him.
The verse continues, “refrain your foot from their path:” Solomon added the words, “refrain your foot” or “withhold, hold back, deny and hinder your, Solomon's son's, foot or leg of his body” “from their path” which means “separate and apart from their, the sinners', trodden pathway, track or way”. Solomon told his son to keep his leg and foot separate from the sinners' trodden way.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon directly instructed his son not to proceed on a path with “sinners”. He was to keep his legs and feet from going anywhere with them. God's wisdom for life includes keeping us from going places we should not go and keeping company with people whom we should not accompany. God loves us, and He has the best plan for our lives on earth and in Heaven to come. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins so we could be forgiven and inherit everlasting life with Him. When we believe and trust in Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will guide us by His Holy Spirit into all truth and give us the power to live according to His ways and to resist the ways of sinners.
Next time Solomon says, “for their feet run to evil”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
