Let the Saints Be Joyful - Psalms 149:5

In Psalms one hundred and forty nine the Psalmist said, “the LORD takes pleasure in his people: he will beautify the meek with salvation”, and in chapter one hundred and forty nine and verse five of Psalms the Psalmist said, “Let the saints be joyful in glory” where we read,

Let the saints be joyful in glory: let them sing aloud upon their beds.

The verse begins, Let the saints be joyful in glory:. The Psalmist began with the words, “let the saints” or “allow and permit the people who are merciful, godly, faithful, kind and pious to” “be joyful” which means “exists as glad, cheerful and exulted” “in glory” or “within honor, abundance, splendor and reputation”. The Psalmist desired that the people who are godly and pious exist as cheerful and glad in honor, abundance and reputation.

The verse continues, “let them sing aloud upon their beds.” The Psalmist added the words, “let them sing aloud” or “allow and permit the saints to use their voices to shout with a ringing cry” “upon their beds” which means “on their, the saint's, couches, biers or places of lying”. The Psalmist wanted the pious and godly to make joyful noises of music with their voices as they sat upon their couches and biers.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist wanted the people who were godly to be glad and cheerful within splendor and reputation, and this was to cause them to use their voices to make loud worshipful music to Jehovah God while they sat on their couches and places of lying. God wants all people to be godly, joyful and worshipful as they enjoy a personal relationship with Him. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and encourage us to join with His “saints” in being “joyful” while we “sing loud worship” songs to Him.

Next time the Psalmist says, Let the high praises of God be in their mouth”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
