In the book of Proverbs Solomon said to his son and godly people, “When wisdom enters into your heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto your soul”, and in chapter two and verse eleven of Proverbs Solomon said, “discretion shall preserve you” where we read,
Discretion shall preserve you, understanding shall keep you:
The verse begins, “Discretion shall preserve you, ...”. Solomon began with the word, “discretion” or “purpose, devise, plot, plan and intent” “shall preserve you” which means “will keep, guard, watch over, protect and have charge of you, Solomon's son and the godly and pious person”. Solomon shared how purpose and planning would watch over and protect his son and people when they are godly and pious.
The verse goes on to say, “... understanding shall keep you:” Solomon continued with the word, “understanding” or “skill, intelligence, insight, caprice, reason and wisdom” “shall keep you” which means “will guard, watch over, keep and preserve you, Solomon's son and the godly person”. Solomon said skill and intelligence would watch over and preserve his son and people who are pious and godly.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon knew his son and godly people needed a purpose and plan for their lives, and intelligence and insight would watch over and protect them. God gave Solomon this “wisdom”, and He wants us to have it as well. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His “discretion” and “understanding” to manage our lives within His presence and before His eyes.
Next time Solomon adds, “to deliver you from the way of the evil man”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
