The Greedy of Gain - Proverbs 1:19

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said of sinners, “they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives”, and in chapter one and verse nineteen of Proverbs Solomon shared about, “the ways of every one that is greedy of gain” where we read,

So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which takes away the life of the owners thereof.

The verse begins, So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain;. Solomon began with the words, “so are the ways” or “therefore, thus, then and hitherto exist the paths, travels, journeys and manners” “of every one” which means “belonging to each, all, the whole and every person” “that is greedy of gain” or “who exists as accomplished, finished and violently given to covetousness for unjust profit acquired by violence”. Solomon said people who make their journey thru life filled will covetousness for unjust profit are like the sinners who “lurk privily for their own lives”.

The verse continues, which takes away the life of the owners thereof.” Solomon added with the words, “which takes away the life” or “that lays hold of, seizes, receives, acquires and snatches apart the soul, mind, living being, desires and seat of emotions and passions” “of the owners thereof” which means “belonging to the rulers, leaders and lords of the gains”. Solomon said people who are covetous for unjust profit lose their souls and minds to their pursuits.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon added being covetous to the ways of sinners. People who are “greedy” for unjust profit often lose their lives while pursuing vain, empty and temporal treasures. God wants to give us “eternal riches”, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind to provide us with age abiding eternal life. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and remind us that we will lose our lives if we become “greedy” for unjust profit.

Next time Solomon says, “wisdom cries without”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
