In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “Wisdom cries without; she utters her voice in the streets. She cries in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she utters her words, saying, how long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?”, and in chapter one and verse twenty-three of Proverbs Solomon said, “turn you at my reproof” where we read,
Turn you at my reproof:
behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.
The verse begins, “Turn you at my reproof:”. Solomon began with the words, “turn you” or “you, Solomon's son, return, repent, restore and refresh” “at my reproof” which means “according to my, wisdom's, correction, punishment, chastisement and chiding”. Solomon wanted his son to yield himself to wisdom's correction and chiding.
The verse continues, “behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.” Solomon added the words, “behold, I will pour out my spirit” or “lo, look and consider, I, wisdom, shall gush forth, bubble up, flow and emit my, wisdom's, breath, mind, patience and disposition” “unto you” which means “toward you, Solomon's son”, “I will make known” or “I, wisdom, shall reveal, make to know, perceive and discern” “my words unto you” which means “my, wisdom's, speech, utterance, business, matters and manner toward you, Solomon's son”. Solomon said wisdom would reveal it's mind and disposition to Solomon's son when he turned his attention toward wisdom.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how important it was for Solomon's son to hear and obey his father's wisdom. Solomon appealed to his son, and thereby desired to pass along not only his instruction, but also his soul and mind for conducting himself in wise ways. Jehovah God, who inspired all the scriptures, wants the same for us. He loves us and proved His love toward us by sending His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we “turn” ourselves to Him and repent of our sins, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and continually give us His Holy Spirit to guide us into all truth with His “wise words”.
Next time Solomon shares what happens, “because I have called, and you refused”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
