In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “My son, hear the instruction of your father, and forsake not the law of your mother. For they shall be an ornament of grace unto your head, and chains about your neck”, and in chapter one and verse ten of Proverbs Solomon said, “my son, if sinners entice you, consent you not” where we read,
My son, if sinners entice you, consent you not.
The verse begins, “My son, if sinners entice you, ...”. Solomon began with the words, “my son” or “my, Solomon's, male offspring and progeny”, “if sinners entice you” which means “whether and in case people who are exposed to condemnation, criminals or reckoned as offenders persuade, flatter, allure or seduce you, Solomon's son” act in the following manner. Solomon presented the idea of people who are criminals and reckoned as offenders persuading and seducing his son.
The verse goes on to say, “... consent you not.” Solomon continued with the words, “consent you” or “you, Solomon's son, be willing, desire, accept or yield” “not” which means “in no way or manner”. Solomon told his son not to accept or yield to criminal people who attempt to seduce him.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon gave his son instructions concerning wicked people who might attempt to seduce him to follow their criminal ways. Solomon wanted to keep his son from trouble and wickedness, and there were people who would attempt to influence him to follow them. God gives His direction and guidance to us through people, including parents, and because there are wicked and evil people in the world, we should beware of those who attempt to “entice” us to do wrong. God loves us, and He wants the best for our lives. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and keep us from those who attempt to convince us to follow their evil ways.
Next time Solomon tells his son what to do, “if they say, come with us”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
