Praise God with the Timbrel and Dance - Psalms 150:4

In Psalms one hundred and fifty the Psalmist said to praise Jehovah God, “with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp”, and in chapter one hundred and fifty and verse four of Psalms the Psalmist said, “Praise him with the timbrel and dance” where we read,

Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs.

The verse begins, Praise him with the timbrel and dance:. The Psalmist began with the words, “Praise him” or “give worship, adoration and thanksgiving to him, Jehovah God“with the timbrel and dance” which means “by the use of the tabret or tambourine and dancing. The Psalmist exhorted his readers and listeners to give adoration and thanksgiving to Jehovah God by the use of the tambourine and dancing.

The verse continues, “praise him with stringed instruments and organs.” The Psalmist added the words, “praise him” or “give adoration, worship and thanksgiving to him, Jehovah God” “with stringed instruments” which means “ by the use of musical chords as parted into strings such as a harp” “and organs” or “and perhaps a flute, reed-pipe or panpipes”. The Psalmist called upon his readers and listeners to give adoration, worship and thanksgiving to Jehovah God by the use of chorded instruments with strings, flutes and reed-pipes.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how the Psalmist wanted people to honor Jehovah God by employing the use of various instruments and dancing. Tambourines, instruments with strings, flutes and dancing may all be used to honor Jehovah God in worship. God wants us to be involved in giving glory to Him, and when we understand that He offers salvation and eternal life to us through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins, we may receive Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”. As we surrender to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and encourage us to worship Jehovah God with our voices and all types of musical instruments forever and ever.

Next time the Psalmist says, “Praise him upon the loud cymbals”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
