In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them. But whosoever hearkens unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil”, and in chapter two and verse one of Proverbs Solomon told his son, “receive my words” where we read,
My son, if you will receive my words, and hide my commandments with you;
The verse begins, “My son, if you will receive my words, ...”. Solomon began with the words, “my son” or “my, Solomon's, male offspring and progeny”, “if you will receive my words” which means “in case and whether you, Solomon's son, shall take, fetch, snatch, carry along, capture and seize my, Solomon's, utterances, speech, sayings, promises and commands”. Solomon presented the idea of his son capturing and seizing his words.
The verse goes on to say, “... and hide my commandments with you;” Solomon continued with the words, “and hide my commandments” or “and treasure, store up and keep secret my, Solomon's, laws, ordinances and precepts” “with you” which means “alongside and beside you, Solomon's son”. Solomon presented the idea of his son storing up his “words” within him.
When we meditate upon Solomon's words in this verse, we learn how he wanted his son to capture his words and to conceal them within his heart, mind and will. Solomon knew his son would be benefited in his life when he listened to him, and God knows the same for us. God gave us His Son Jesus to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us His “words” of wisdom and his ordinances for living in the best way we may live.
Next time Solomon shares about, “inclining your ear unto wisdom”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
