Laughing at Your Calamity - Proverbs 1:26

In the book of Proverbs Solomon shared how wisdom says, “Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you. Because I have called, and you refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded. But you have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof”, and in chapter one and verse twenty-six of Proverbs Solomon said, “I will also laugh at your calamity” where we read,

I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear comes;

The verse begins, I also will laugh at your calamity;. Solomon began with the words, “I also will laugh” or “I, wisdom, shall play, mock make sport and mockingly rejoice” “at your calamity” which means “at your, the people who disregard wisdom's counsel's, distress, burden, calamity and disaster”. Solomon shared how wisdom that was rejected and refused by people would mockingly rejoice when they encounter calamity and disaster.

The verse goes on to say, “I will mock when your fear comes;” Solomon continued with the words, “I will mock” or “I, wisdom, shall deride, ridicule and stammer unintelligibly” “when your fear comes” which means “at the time and moment the people who disregard wisdom's counsel's, terror, dread and alarm arises and appears on the scene”. Solomon said wisdom would ridicule the people who refuse his counsel at the time and moment terror and dread appears.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon spoke of the mocking that wisdom would direct toward people who suffer distresses because they rejected his counsel. He inferred that wisdom would ridicule people at the time their terror arrived. God wants everyone to listen to Him, and because He loves us, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and keep us from the mocking and laughter of wisdom because we have hearkened to God.

Next time Solomon tells why wisdom will laugh and mock, “when your fear comes as desolation”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
