Sing Unto the LORD a New Song - Psalms 149:1

In Psalms one hundred and forty nine and verse one the Psalmist said, “Sing unto the LORD a new song” where we read,

Praise you the LORD. Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise in the congregation of saints.

The verse begins, Praise you the LORD. Sing unto the LORD a new song, .... The Psalmist began with the words, “praise you the LORD” or “you, people who are reading and listening to the Psalmist's words, give thanksgiving, adoration and worship to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. “Sing unto the LORD” which means “use voices to make musical worship to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God with” “a new song” or “a fresh musical or lyrical ode”. The Psalmist called upon his readers and listeners not only to give thanksgiving and adoration to Jehovah God, but to do so with their musical voices and fresh lyrics.

The verse continues, “... and his praise in the congregation of saints.” The Psalmist added the words, “and his praise” or “and his, Jehovah God's, thanksgiving, adoration and worship” “in the congregation” which means “within the assembly, company, convocation or organized body” “of saints” or “belonging to the faithful, kind, godly and pious ones”. The Psalmist exhorted his readers and listeners to give Jehovah God thanksgiving and adoration within the assembly of His pious and godly people.

When we consider the Psalmist's words in this verse, we learn how he wanted his readers and listeners to give honor and thanksgiving to Jehovah God. They were to do so with their “singing voices”, and they were to employ fresh lyrics and music to do so. God wants us to worship Him in the assembly of His pious and godly ones, and everyone is invited to have a personal relationship with Him. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to be among His “saints” who “sing new songs” and give honor and thanksgiving to Him for all eternity.

Next time the Psalmist says, “Let Israel rejoice in him that made him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
