When Fear Comes as Desolation - Proverbs 1:27

In the book of Proverbs Solomon shared how wisdom says, “Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you. Because I have called, and you refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded. But you have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof. I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear comes”, and in chapter one and verse twenty-seven of Proverbs Solomon said wisdom will laugh and mock, “when your fear comes as desolation” where we read,

When your fear comes as desolation, and your destruction comes as a whirlwind;

when distress and anguish comes upon you.

The verse begins, When your fear comes as desolation, and your destruction comes as a whirlwind;. Solomon began with the words, “when your fear comes” or “at the time and moment your, the people who rejected the counsel of wisdom's, terror, dread and alarm” “as destruction” which means “similar and in likeness to ruin, waste and devastation”, “and your destruction” or “and your, the people who rejected the counsel of wisdom's, distresses, burdens and calamities” “comes as a whirlwind” which means “arise and appear similar and in likeness to an overflow, storm and tempest”. Solomon shared at the time and moment dread and terror arises like destruction, distresses and burdens, wisdom would mock and laugh at those who refused to hear his words.

The verse continues, “when distress and anguish comes upon you.” Solomon added the words, “when distress and anguish” or “at the time and moment straits, troubles, vexations, adversity, constraint and pressure” “comes upon you” which means “arises and appears on you, people who refuse to listen to wisdom's words”. Solomon said wisdom would mock and laugh at the time troubles, vexations, adversities and pressures arrive within the lives of people who refuse to pay attention to his advice.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how “wisdom” personified would laugh and mock at people who refuse his advice and instruction. When we refuse to hear God's “wisdom”, we subject ourselves to troubles and difficulties that we otherwise may avoid. God wants to provide for us. He wants to protect us, and He gives us His “wisdom” through His word because He loves us. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified on the cross for our sins, and when we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and continually give us His “wisdom” so that we may avoid unnecessary mockable and laughable difficulties and troublesome emotions because we have listened to Him.

Next time Solomon says, “they shall call upon me”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
