In Psalms one hundred and fifty the Psalmist said, “Praise you the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power”, and in chapter one hundred and fifty and verse two of Psalms the Psalmist said, “praise him for his mighty acts” where we read,
Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness.
The verse begins, “Praise him for his mighty acts:”. The Psalmist began with the words, “Praise him” or “give adoration and thanksgiving to him, Jehovah God” “for his mighty acts” which means “on behalf of his, Jehovah God's, powerful, brave, masterful and filled with valor deeds and works”. The Psalmist called upon his readers and listeners to give adoration and thanksgiving to Jehovah God on behalf of His brave and powerful works and deeds.
The verse continues, “praise him according to his excellent greatness.” The Psalmist added the words, “praise him” or “give adoration and thanksgiving to him, Jehovah God” “according to his excellent greatness” which means “in keeping with his, Jehovah God's, abundant, numerous and plentiful magnificence, splendor and brilliance”. The Psalmist exhorted his readers and listeners to give adoration and thanksgiving to Jehovah God in keeping with His surpassing and magnificent splendor.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we discover how the Psalmist wanted his readers and listeners to give adoration and thanksgiving to Jehovah God on behalf of His powerful works, and to give Him honor and glory in keeping with His powerful magnificence. God is worthy of our praise, and because He gave His Son Jesus to the world to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind, when we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and encourage us to join others in the world who give Him “praise” for His “mighty acts” and “excellent greatness” for all eternity.
Next time the Psalmist says, “praise him with the sound of the trumpet”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
