An Ornament of Grace - Proverbs 1:9

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “My son, hear the instruction of your father, and forsake not the law of your mother”, and in chapter one and verse nine of Proverbs Solomon said, “they shall be an ornament of grace unto your head” where we read,

For they shall be an ornament of grace unto your head, and chains about your neck.

The verse begins, “For they shall be an ornament of grace unto your head, .... Solomon began with the words, “for they shall be an ornament of grace” or “because, since and on account that they, the instruction of his father and the law of his mother, will exist as something attached like a wreath pertaining to favor, charm, elegance and acceptance” “unto your head” which means “to your, Solomon's son's, top, summit, upper part and front”. Solomon shared how the instruction of his father and the law of his mother would exist like a wreath or crown of favor and acceptance upon his son's head.

The verse goes on to say, “... and chains about your neck.” Solomon continued with the words, “and chains” or “and necklaces or neck-pendants” “about your neck” which means “around your, Solomon's son's, throat or neck of the body”. Solomon said the instruction of his father and the law of his mother would exist like necklaces surrounding his son's “neck”.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon knew his son would greatly benefit from the counsel and advice of his father and mother. He would wear these instructions and guides like a wreath or crown of favor on his “head” and necklaces surrounding his “neck”. God wants us to enjoy favor and acceptance from Him, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind for this to be possible. When we surrender to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and adorn us with His wisdom and instruction through parents that are our physical parents as well as those within the family of God.

Next time Solomon says, “my son, if sinners entice you, consent you not”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
