In Psalms one hundred and forty nine the Psalmist said, “Let the saints be joyful in glory: let them sing aloud upon their beds. Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand”, and in chapter one hundred and forty nine and verse seven of Psalms the Psalmist shared about, “executing vengeance upon the heathen” where we read,
To execute vengeance upon the heathen, and punishments upon the people;
The verse begins, “To execute vengeance upon the heathen, ...”. The Psalmist began with the words, “to execute vengeance” or “to fashion, accomplish, work, make and produce avengement or revenge” “upon the heathen” which means “on the non-Hebrew people, pagans and foreign nations”. The Psalmist said the people with the “two-edged sword in their hand” would carry out revenge on the non-Hebrew pagan people.
The verse continues, “... and punishments upon the people;” The Psalmist added the words, “and punishments” or “and rebuke, reproof, impeachment, chiding and correction” “upon the people” which means “on the human beings whether male or female”. The Psalmist said the people with the “two-edged swords” would use them to bring reproof and correction upon the heathen “people”.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how the Psalmist said Jehovah God would employ people who “praise” Jehovah God with their mouths and hold “two-edged swords” in their hands to carry out revenge and reproof against pagan and heathen people. God loves everyone, and He gives all people the opportunity to have a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and may employ us to carry out His revenge and correction upon people who refuse and reject His offer to them.
Next time the Psalmist says “to bind their kings with chains”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
