Seeking Wisdom Like Silver and Hid Treasures - Proverbs 2:4

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said to his son, “Yes, if you cry after knowledge, and lift up your voice for understanding”, and in chapter two and verse three of Proverbs Solomon shared about seeking wisdom like, “silver” and “hid treasures” where we read,

If you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hid treasures;

The verse begins, “If you seek her as silver, ...”. Solomon began with the words, “if you seek her” or “whether and in case you, Solomon's son, desire, require, exact and request of her, knowledge and understanding” “as silver” which means “similar and in likeness to the precious metal silver”. Solomon presented the idea that his son should desire knowledge and understanding like he would if they were precious “silver” metal.

The verse continues, “... and search for her as for hid treasures;” Solomon added the words, “and search for her” or “and diligently seek out and look for knowledge and understanding” “as for hid treasure” which means “similar and in likeness to secret storehouses or riches”. Solomon said his son should diligently look for knowledge and understanding like he would if he were seeking secret storehouses.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon wanted his son to “seek and search” for knowledge and understanding. God inspired these words of Solomon, and He wants us to desire His wisdom as well. He desires to have a personal intimate relationship with us through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins, and when we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and reveal His wisdom, knowledge and understanding when we “seek” them from Him with all our hearts. (See Matthew 6:33)
