Feet Running to Evil - Proverbs 1:16

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “My son, if sinners entice you, consent you not. If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause. Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit. We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil. Cast in your lot among us; let us all have one purse. My son, walk not you in the way with them; refrain your foot from their path”, and in chapter one and verse sixteen of Proverbs Solomon said, “for their feet run to evil” where we read,

For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.

The verse begins, For their feet run to evil, .... Solomon began with the words, “for their feet” or “because, since and on account that their, the sinners, physical legs, feet or paces” “run to evil” which means “ dart swiftly, move quickly and hurry toward bad, wickedness, unpleasantness, misery, displeasing and unhappiness”. Solomon shared how “sinners” move their legs and feet quickly toward unpleasantness and evil.

The verse goes on to say, “... and make haste to shed blood.” Solomon continued with the words, “and make haste” or “and hasten, hurry, precipitate and quickly prepare” “to shed blood” which means “to pour out, spill forth , expend and gush toward bloodshed or blood thirstiness”. Solomon said the sinners also hurry toward blood thirstiness and bloodshed.

When we consider Solomon's words in this verse, we learn how he knew sinners were driven toward wickedness, killing and destruction. Even as Jesus said, “The thief comes not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy:”, however He also said, “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” (See John 10:10) Solomon wanted to keep his son from being involved with people who have these tendency, and God wants to save us from aligning with them. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and keep us protected from those who run toward wickedness, bloodshed and destruction.

Next time Solomon says, “surely in vain the net is spread”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
